Tips from an Anaheim Tutor Making a Cheat Sheet

Tips from an Anaheim Tutor Making a Cheat Sheet Anaheim Private Tutoring Tips: Making a “Cheat Sheet” for Your Test Anaheim Private Tutoring Tips: Making a “Cheat Sheet” for Your Test A “cheat sheet” usually refers to a piece of paper or a notecard that a student has filled with information that they have learned or that they will need for an exam.   There are four different situations where a cheat sheet is commonly used by students. Our private Anaheim tutors are here to help you prepare for your test. The teacher allows it and checks it A teacher may allow you to create a cheat sheet and bring it with you for the test.   If the teacher is checking your cheat sheet, they are likely doing so for one of two reasons.   First, they may have required you to make a cheat sheet and are actually grading it as a completed assignment.   Teachers assign cheat sheets to force you to make one as a way of studying. Second, they may only be allowing certain material to be on the cheat sheet, or there may be limitations to the size of the cheat sheet.   For example, a teacher may only allow you to write down formulas or equations, and they may only allow the cheat sheet to be a single side of an index card.   Other rules might be that you have to make your own cheat sheet, that you can’t put any written-out problems or examples, or that the cheat sheet has to be typed and a certain point font.   Always make sure you know the rules for making a cheat sheet to be used during a test â€" you don’t want yours to be confiscated and leave you with nothing. The teacher allows it and doesn’t check it Often times, a teacher will allow you to bring a cheat sheet with you for a test, but they won’t check them beforehand.   This allows you full control of what you put on your cheat sheet without worrying about any restrictions.   Teachers may do this because they believe that the exam is testing knowledge that can’t easily be written on a cheat sheet, or because they are content if you can quickly find the information you need from an external source. A teacher allowing a cheat sheet is also a method of reducing stress for students.   Having something available for them to check â€" even if they already knew the information â€" can take some of the pressure or testing anxiety away.   It is also less hectic than having a test that is open-note or open-book; there is no frantically flipping through pages when all you have is one sheet. You are making the cheat sheet for yourself as a study tool Making a cheat sheet can be beneficial even if your teacher doesn’t allow one to be used on a test.   In fact, when teachers allow a cheat sheet, it is often because they recognize what a powerful study tool it is.   Students will make the sheet because they feel like it is an easy way to get a better grade.   It also feels less like studying and more like a sneaky trick to get questions correct. In reality, the process of making a cheat sheet is actually a form of studying.   Searching your notes, textbooks, and the internet for information, pruning, and selecting the most important material, then writing it all down in an organized manner is almost identical to what you would do if you were making a study guide, notes, or just studying in general.   Many teachers find that students often don’t even need to use their cheat sheet during a test after they’ve made one. This means that you can choose to make a cheat sheet for yourself just to study.   This is especially valuable for early tests in your class.   By the time you’re studying for the final, you’ll already have a few review cheat sheets to look at and prepare. You are making a cheat sheet to cheat during the test This is where the “cheat sheet” gets its name â€" from students who prepare a small piece of paper with notes on it to sneak into class and use it on an exam.   There is no need for this if you’ve put in the time you should into your class and your studying.   Often, cheating in this way is punished extremely severely in schools.   The risk-to-reward ratio of cheating in this way is rarely worth it.   If you are planning on making a cheat sheet to actually cheat, consider making it larger and more detailed, then simply use it to study.   Make multiple and see if you can write one from memory.   You may find that everything you were going to put on the cheat sheet, you can commit to memory instead. Here, you can see four examples of very detailed cheat sheets hand-made and posted by students on reddit.com.   Notice things like the use of color, the blocking and lines for organization, pictures, and diagrams, and small handwriting. Your cheat sheet doesn’t have to look like these.   These are only examples of what some students have created to help them be prepared for a test.   If your teacher allows you to make a cheat sheet, consider putting the time in to make it organized and detailed.   If your teacher doesn’t allow cheat sheets but you are looking for a way to study, consider making one anyone.   Making pages like this is a great way to find, prioritize, construct, and then study information.   Just don’t bring it to the test if it isn’t allowed. Activities to sharpen kids math skills - ALOHA Mind Math

Activities to sharpen kids math skills Math is one of the subjects that can cause a lot of worry in students and concern in parents. However, if handled in an interesting manner from a young age, you will find that your child approaches it with a lot more ease. Here are some tips and math activities by which you can sharpen your kid’s math skills along with keeping it fun and interesting for them: Take your child grocery shopping:When you go to the supermarket to pick up your weekly groceries, take your child along. Give them a budget, and tell them they can pick up a few things they like, but within that budget. With older children, you can even ask them to keep track of the overall shopping by adding up items as you pick them up. This will help your child realize the value of money, as well as the simple operations of addition and multiplication as a mental activity. Photo courtesy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/plong/3103381455/sizes/m/in/photostream/ Bake-a-thon: Helping you measure out ingredients is a good way to make your child aware of weights and measures, and will make her proficient in this aspect. You can even use simple recipes that your kids can try out by themselves with minimal supervision for handling hot objects. Distance and Speed: When going on a long drive, ask your child to keep track of the odometer readings and time taken, and calculate the speed of travel. Doing this for long suburban and out of city drives, as well as for that drive to school or the supermarket will give an idea of how much difference the city traffic makes. Spot quiz: Look around for math related activities for the time that you spend together. From questions like multiplication games, to formulating addition or subtraction problems related to real life, there are a lot of ways you can make your child aware of the practical applications of math too. These are just some of the way in which you can sharpen your kid’s abilities with math, wh ich also help in improving their mental math skills. Do check out our classes at Aloha that are also a good way to introduce mental math to your child. Please visit our website for more details: http://www.aloha-usa.com

Repellent at Night to Avoid the Bite (Precautions about West Nile Virus Breakouts)

Repellent at Night to Avoid the Bite (Precautions about West Nile Virus Breakouts) fightthebitecolorado.com West Nile Virus West Nile virus has had a recent breakout in Massachusetts causing an added necessity for safety precautions. When you go out this upcoming weekend make sure you bring along your bug spray because this virus can be deadly. After local schools canceled evening events and my own college sent out warnings, I decided to do a little research about the virus. West Nile virus was first identified in 1937 in Uganda in eastern Africa. This disease, transmitted by mosquitos, can produce mild to serious symptoms. Because West Nile is a type of flavivirus, it is part of an extremely dangerous group of RNA viruses. In this family are viruses which cause diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, and Japanese encaphilitis. It was first discovered in the United States in the summer of 1999 in New York. However, as of September 2012, a total of 2,636 cases of West Nile virus disease in people, including 118 deaths, have been reported to the Center for Disease Control.  Virus symptoms can vary as I said previously. These symptoms can range from headaches to stiff neck to muscle weakness. Most people infected with West Nile virus do not show symptoms; however, about 20 percent will show symptoms. Less than 1 percent of infected patients will show serious symptoms, signifying a neurological infection. Full lists of symptoms can be found on websites such as the Center for Disease Control and PubMed Health. It is important that you know how to protect yourself from this threat. Bug spray containing DEET is your best bet when it comes to repelling mosquitos. It is also a good idea to stay away from areas of still water during dusk, dawn and early evening hours. Mosquitos breed in still water so many researchers suggest changing or emptying areas such as bird baths, pools and water gardens if West Nile infested mosquitos are at high capacity in your surroundings. Also, wear long sleeve and pant layers when outside for long amounts of time, especially around still water or in late evening hours. Certain factors will increase the risk of West Nile virus being more serious in your body if you contract it. These factors include age, immune health and pregnancy. If you are above the age of 50, you have a heightened risk. This factor also applies to newborns and infants. If you suffer from HIV or another immune deficiency disease, your change of having a serious case of West Nile is also increased. Finally, pregnant women have an extremely high risk factor and should take all precautions possible. Until next time, protect yourself from bugs because West Nile bites!

What Is a Sublevel in Chemistry?

What Is a Sublevel in Chemistry? It is important to know what is a sublevel in chemistry. Not only will it help you out if you ever want to do organic chemistry, but also if you decide to take a chemistry course for students you know. This is especially true if you are interested in a career in chemistry and want to further your education in this field. What is a sublevel in chemistry? It is actually a very large level of a chemical formula, with the elements arranged in such a way that they make up a higher level. The trick is that the levels are not always arranged in the order they are listed in the book. There are a few examples of how this would work, so let's just take a look at one example. Here are the names for some of the higher levels of hydrochloric acid in this case.At the highest level, it is called H2, but this could be changed to H. Hydrochloric acid at the next level is called H3, but could be called something else too. The book calls it HCN, or 'hydrochloric nitric ac id,' which you can also rename. So, now we can see why we would want to know how these levels in this case are done. To figure out what is a sublevel in chemistry, you need to know what the general name of the chemical is, and the word that goes with it. For example, if you asked someone what is a hydrochloric acid, you would probably get something like 'HS'.It is important to understand the meaning of the words, so you can understand how they are used in the formula. As you probably know, there are actually four levels of hydrochloric acid, all with different names. HS stands for 'hydrochloric' (that is the general term for the elements) H- for hydrogen (the element with one proton in its nucleus), for carbon, and N for nitrogen. When a student reads about these four levels, they will get something like this.If you go back to the book, you will see that there are also four symbols that go with these four levels, and they are also called 'labels'. You will find them on the label of this type of acid, and it is referred to as HHC. If you do some research, you will find that H is what a person would say when he or she talks about this type of acid.Just remember that the level has been divided into four, and H is one of them. If you go to the fourth level, you will find that it is actually HN, which is the very highest level of the chemical. It is important to understand what is a sublevel in chemistry, as the chemicals are all very similar in their chemical makeup.Knowing what is a sublevel in chemistry can help you when you are taking a class. You can then determine how the level should be listed in the book, and then you can have a better understanding of what you are being taught.

Square Root of Negative Number Online Tutoring

Square Root of Negative Number Online Tutoring Square root of a number is written under the square root radical symbol and the numbers inside the square root should be greater than or equal to 0 to get a real solution. But if a negative number is inside the square root, then the solution is known ias an imaginary solution and it is written in terms of i. Square root of -1 is equal to i and it represented as i = -1. Therefore square root of negative numbers gives imaginary solutions. Example 1: What is the value of the expression, (-4)? (-4i) can be split further in order to simplify the expression. This implies that (-4) = 4 * -1 Here, 4 can be written as 4 = (2 * 2) = 2 Therefore, 4 = 2 and this gives -4 = 4 * -1 == -4 = 2 * -1. And -1 is equal to i ==-4 = 2 * -1 = 2 * i Hence the value of the expression, (-4) = 2i Example 2: What is the value of the expression, -27? (-27) can be split further in order to simplify the expression. This implies that (-27) = 27 * -1 Here, 27 can be written as 27 = (3* 3 * 3) = 33. Therefore, 27 = 33 and this gives -27 = 27* -1 == -27 = 33* -1. And -1 is equal to i == -27= 33 * -1 = 33 * i Hence the value of the expression, (-27) = 3i3.

What To Know About The Updated SSAT

What To Know About The Updated SSAT The SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test) is one of two admissions tests for private / independent schools. The other is the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam), but they are not exactly interchangeable. Some private schools favor the SSAT, while others favor the ISEE. All schools will publish their preference online. The SSAT is the first major test your child will be taking. There can be pressure; there can be stress and even anxiety. First, you need to know what you and your child are up against. And Varsity Tutors is here to help. See more from us on how to improve your SSAT score and comparing the ISEE and the SSAT. Or see our entire section on SSAT Test Strategies. The Admission Organization (creator and administrator of the SSAT) has made some fairly significant test updates that will impact your SSAT prep. New Elementary Level Test: The biggest change is the addition of the new Elementary Level Test, which will be used for admissions to 4th or 5th grade. Previously, there was no 4th or 5th grade admissions test. The Lower Level was the earliest test students could take for admission into grades 5-7. The SSAT is now renaming the Lower Level the Middle Level. The Upper Level will not change, and will still be used for admission into grades 8-11. Scoring updates: The SSAT is not changing its scoring policy; however, it will change what those scores mean. Most private schools will still consider percentile scores and not actual test scores. Actual scores can range from 1320-2400 (depending on test level), but they are ignored. Previously, the SSAT lumped all students into one scoring group (for each level). But, now they are establishing norm groups for international students. International students scores will not be directly compared to those in America/Canada. Question updates: Previously, some of the SSAT questions were taken from corporate test writers question banks. However, the test has realized that these questions do not adequately depict the material in independent/private schools. Now, 100% of the questions on the test will be written by independent/private school teachers. Experimental section: Each SSAT test will now contain experimental questions. These questions will not be scored, and will be analyzed to see if they are relevant for future tests. New Writing Prompt: Each writing prompt will still be 25 minutes; however, the test has again called on independent/private school teachers to update the writing prompts. Now, for the Middle Level, students will be presented two creative prompts and will choose to write one. On the Upper Level, students will be presented a creative prompt and an essay prompt and choose one. Also, students can now write on two pages instead of one. Visit the official SSAT site for updated SSAT prompts. These are the biggest changes to the new SSAT. In addition, the test has made minor updates, such as: increasing security, updating online score delivery (for no additional cost), eliminating standby testing (meaning students must register ahead of time and can no longer show up on test day and take it), considering computer-based testing. In 2012, the SSAT will not be computer-based, but test administrators are looking into it. Preparing for the new SSAT can be a confusing process. But, Varsity Tutors can help. Call us today for any questions on the new SSAT or to see how a private SSAT Tutor could help your child. Tutors are available and fully understand how to maximize your childs potential.
